gerber hunting knifeOne thing you want to do is make sure it is the right hunting knife for you. I mean don’t go out and buy just any kind of knife because you thought it was cool looking. I mean just like most things looks can be deceiving.

The first thing you should look at is the edge on the knife. Do you want a curve or a straight edge? Next is what will you be doing with it? I mean like are you cutting through bones or just skin? That makes a big difference. These are things that you have to consider when you are looking at getting a good hunting knife.

hunting equipmentNow the most important thing about trying to squeeze on your hunting equipment is that you don’t ruin anything. Ya, you want to take everything along because you don’t know what you need and when you need it. I mean when I go on my hunting trips I basically take everything along except for the kitchen sink.

This might not seem to be a big deal to some people, but you have to be smart about all your hunting equipment. A lot of it is not cheap! I guess I have seen where things were jam packed and because of that things got wrecked. So this was just a helpful tip to remind yourself to be smart about how you pack your gear.

hunting gearOne thing is for sure, you should add knife sharpeners to your hunting gear. The reason why I say this, is you never know when you will need a sharp knife. You can be in the woods, or in a middle of cat tails in a wet area. You never know what you are going to stumble upon and if you need your knife to get out of tough situations.

I know you already have lots in your hunting gear, but what good is a dull knife? Also many knives cost a lot, so you should keep  a nice edge on it and make it last longer and who knows, you can pass it down to your kids!

cold steel knivesDesigned by Andrew Demko, the spartan, made by cold steel knives, is a folding Kopis scaled down to accommodate the demands of a tamer, more sophisticated world. The 4″ blade evokes the classic Kopis of the ancients with its characteristic recurved edge, big belly and sharp, acute point.

The spartan cold steel knives always presents its edge at an angle to the material being cut to produce a deep sheering effect, and t stabs almost as well as it cuts.

ka bar knifeIf your looking for a multipurpose knife with a military look, but yet a deer hunting look, then a ka bar knife is exactly what will fit your description. It is heavy duty built with a long blade and strong handle and just has all the qualities that a military person will look for in a knife.

At the same time it fits all the needs for a deer hunting knife. It has a sharp point and isn’t so bulky in the blade part. You don’t want a bulky one because it makes it difficult to field dress a deer. So next time don’t forget about your ka bar knife.

gerber blades hunting knifeThere are many advantages for a rugged hunting knife. They are heavy duty built with a strong sharp blade. They can take a beaten when you drop it or use it for breaking through deer bones when processing it. You can actually use it for what you want to use it for and not worry about damaging it and wasting your money.

Another great thing about a rugged hunting knife is that you can where it on your side and not have to worry about jabbing yourself because most of these knives come in a heavy duty protective case that goes on your belt. That is a great feature when you can take it in the outdoors with your for your protection and for your convenience.

hunting gearOne thing I have learned is that you can never have too much of something that you actually use. Ya, things might get cluttered, but that is when you decide what you use and what you don’t use and then get rid of it. In this case it never hurts to add multiple knives to your hunting gear.

The reason I say multiple is because lets say you have two tags for one season and you shoot a deer, and gut it and there is no water around. I would wrap the knife in your gloves and put inside your dead deer, and then continue on hunting with a clean knife. You never know if you will need a knife, so keep one on your side while you are hunting. So next time you should consider adding more than one knife to your  hunting gear!

saving money on hunting gear Everybody has a wish list, especially for hunting gear. That is why it is important to set a budget for your hunting gear. I mean some things you can go cheap on, but you must remember that old saying that says, “you get what you pay for”. I’m not saying you have to go out and buy the most expensive products either.

Hunting gear consist of lots of products. That is why it is important to set a budget and stay within that price. Make a list of items you want and the prices of them and then you decide on where you can spare some money and get by with what you got and what you need. The biggest thing to remember that you have to be smart on what hunting gear you buy and where you buy it.
