One thing you want to do is make sure it is the right hunting knife for you. I mean don’t go out and buy just any kind of knife because you thought it was cool looking. I mean just like most things looks can be deceiving.
The first thing you should look at is the edge on the knife. Do you want a curve or a straight edge? Next is what will you be doing with it? I mean like are you cutting through bones or just skin? That makes a big difference. These are things that you have to consider when you are looking at getting a good hunting knife.
If your looking for a multipurpose knife with a military look, but yet a deer hunting look, then a ka bar knife is exactly what will fit your description. It is heavy duty built with a long blade and strong handle and just has all the qualities that a military person will look for in a knife.
At the same time it fits all the needs for a deer hunting knife. It has a sharp point and isn’t so bulky in the blade part. You don’t want a bulky one because it makes it difficult to field dress a deer. So next time don’t forget about your ka bar knife.
There are many advantages for a rugged hunting knife. They are heavy duty built with a strong sharp blade. They can take a beaten when you drop it or use it for breaking through deer bones when processing it. You can actually use it for what you want to use it for and not worry about damaging it and wasting your money.
Another great thing about a rugged hunting knife is that you can where it on your side and not have to worry about jabbing yourself because most of these knives come in a heavy duty protective case that goes on your belt. That is a great feature when you can take it in the outdoors with your for your protection and for your convenience.
One thing I have learned is that you can never have too much of something that you actually use. Ya, things might get cluttered, but that is when you decide what you use and what you don’t use and then get rid of it. In this case it never hurts to add multiple knives to your hunting gear.
The reason I say multiple is because lets say you have two tags for one season and you shoot a deer, and gut it and there is no water around. I would wrap the knife in your gloves and put inside your dead deer, and then continue on hunting with a clean knife. You never know if you will need a knife, so keep one on your side while you are hunting. So next time you should consider adding more than one knife to your hunting gear!
Everybody has a wish list, especially for hunting gear. That is why it is important to set a budget for your hunting gear. I mean some things you can go cheap on, but you must remember that old saying that says, “you get what you pay for”. I’m not saying you have to go out and buy the most expensive products either.
Hunting gear consist of lots of products. That is why it is important to set a budget and stay within that price. Make a list of items you want and the prices of them and then you decide on where you can spare some money and get by with what you got and what you need. The biggest thing to remember that you have to be smart on what hunting gear you buy and where you buy it.
For awhile there I thought that only deer hunters were the main buyers for the ka-bar knives. Well, it turns out I was wrong. The military are very much into using these knives. There are so many different varieties that they are able to fit a knife to each one of there uniforms. If they want a short knife, or a long knife they can get it.
I mean if ka-bar knives are good enough for the military to use, then they should be excellent for us deer hunters. Just remember that you don’t leave these knives around for your children to get a hold of because they are very sharp!
One thing you should always do after you field dress your deer is sanitize your hunting knives. This is very important to do. Some people just rinse it off and put it back in the case and leave it until next time that you skin a deer. The only problem with that is there is a lot of bacteria and germs from wild game.
There is a lot of diseases out there now and well one way of prevention is to sanitize your hunting knives. It only takes a minute. All you need to do is keep a container of bacterial wipes in your vehicle and just wipe your knife off when you done. It is that easy and you know that you have one less chance of spreading diseases.
This review isn’t on multiple Ka-Bar hunting knives. This one is about one in particular. It is a Ka-Bar USMC Tactical Knife. Here are two positive reviews:
1. At 7 inches long, the epoxy powder coated blade is the perfect length for utility or tactical use. Ka-Bar uses a clip point design, which even makes the USMC knife useful for hunting and skinning.
2. The guard and pommel are made from carbon steel. This means that your fingers have excellent protection from slipping unto the blade. The steel pommel is rugged enough to make a nice hammer or mallet in the field.
These were just two good reviews about Ka-Bar hunting knives. There are many more positive reviews and I will share them in future blogs.
